Did I already mention that I was a big fanatic of The Contender? Though I wasn’t able to closely track its second season, The Contender remained one of my all-time favorite reality shows alongside The Amazing Race and American Idol. Next to basketball, boxing is probably the sport where a lot of Filipinos are insanely addicted to. Thanks largely to Manny Pacquiao's inspiration, new boxing arenas now sprouted around Manila’s corners. Drive along West Avenue, Frisco or Mindanao Avenue, you will know what I’m talking about. These are just few roads I’ve recently seen and they all got their own boxing rings. What more if I stroll around the metro?

While The Contender was being shown on AXN, the copycat local network ABS-CBN came up with a show called Kamao, hosted by Robin Padilla. The entire show was a complete imitation of The Contender but there was a big difference though: Kamao sucks! For one, the challengers don’t even know the rules of boxing. The whole fighting thing was close to watching the street gangs running amok on the streets. For another, the editing, cinematography and the entire technical craze were all yuck. Plus, they have Vina Morales as one of the commentators. I mean, she may look like a perfect boxer but she doesn’t know a thing about boxing. Guess what, she was basically throwing questions the whole season. No wonder it didn’t click.
But those bad memories are totally forgotten now like it never existed. This time, ABS-CBN attempts a renaissance plus a new twist. Behold, Pinoy Mano Mano: The Celebrity Boxing Challenge. This show, hosted by actor-director-wannabe senator Cesar Montano and co-hosted by comedian Bayani Agbayani, features eight steaming hot celebrities: TJ Trinidad, Jordan Herrera, Joem Bascon, Rico Barrera, Rico Robles, Biboy Ramirez, Michael Roy Jornales and Eric Fructuoso. The prices contain cash worth half a million, house and lot, and a car. With a cast of hot boys and great prices, this show gotta kick some ass.
Can ABS-CBN pull it off this time? Watch the premiere episode “Buena Mano” featuring TJ ‘El Tornado’ Trinidad and Jordan ‘The Jaguar’ Herrera tomorrow at 8:30pm.

hehehehe... kamao really sucked
Yup, it totally sucked that even when it's already gone six feet under, people actually felt it never existed. "Kamao? What kamao?" U know what I mean. HaHaHa.
