Philippines’ representative to last year’s Mister International, Jeffrey Miguel Surio, is the newest bonbon of Simply Manila. According to The Beauty Mania, “Jeff Surio is a Filipino model and teacher who has joined many local and international male pageants including Cool Waves Bikini Open 2006, Kourus Male Model Search, Eat Bulaga’s Macho Man, Promising Filipino Model 2008 and many others.” According to hot men blog authority, UPH, Jeff landed a spot in the 2008 Mister International’s Top 10, but the title went ultimately to Mister Vietnam. Not that it really matters, but here’s Jeff Surio in his sexiest shots… (The title is based on the 1963 comedy film The Nutty Professor, starring Jerry Lewis.)

Chasing Time
Did you ever feel like you’re running out of time in life? Did you ever feel like your job is wasting too much of your time? That you are improperly compensated? That you are no longer happy with what you are doing? I feel so afraid about confronting these questions right now, because I think it might create a negative vision in my head and might detrimentally affect my job performance. I’ve made impulsive decisions in the past and I have been working on fighting this kind of attitude so I won’t end up lamenting my own decisions. Exactly four months ago, I got promoted as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and was given the privilege of handling a team for over two months. I had to work with 12 call center agents (one of them I instantly terminated for not showing up for over two weeks). Two months later, before the transition to the next Team Leader happened, only 9 agents were left—one got promoted as a Real-Time Analyst and another got terminated for call avoidance. Several people in the office detested my decision to terminate that agent, particularly those who can tolerate dishonesty and those who can easily sacrifice their integrity and name over mere friendship. But besides the fact that I was the reason for some people’s aversion, everything else that I did as a leader went well. I was happy and satisfied when I was handling a team, now I felt like slacking. Although I was told by my Group Manager that I will be promoted to a Team Leader post (and was asked to keep my fingers crossed which tells me it’s only a B plan or still needs approval from the upper management), I am still unsure as to what I really wanted to do at the moment. To be honest, I just wanted to have plenty of time so I could focus on my one (or two) true love: scriptwriting (or simply writing) and photography. But since I need to earn to be able to live and afford my level of comfort, I guess what I really need to sacrifice are these dreams of mine. Or, if I can do both, chase time and live a double life. Life is so short of time.

Manila's Newest Urban Legend
Some urban legends in Manila are simply too weird to be true. For instance, the song My Way has long been popular and believed to be the cause of numerous incidents of violence and homicides among drunkards where arguments over performances degenerated into hostility. This behavior has been tackled even in popular TV series (e.g. Michelle Bayle played the role of a serial murderess in the old primetime show Basta’t Kasama Kita who slays men who likes singing this Frank Sinatra song). And just recently, there is another song that could add up to all this Filipino nuttiness: Wonder Girls’ Nobody. If ‘My Way’ victims were murdered due to their fondness over that song, the first ‘Nobody’ victim (I hope it will be the last), as indicated in that tabloid news above, has been brutally murdered due to his lack of knowledge over this sensational Korean hit song. See the video after the jump to save your life…

Before Twilight
I know nothing about photography, so if I have to criticize anything that relates to it, it has to be always limited to my own shots or any picture that has me on it. There’s nothing special about that picture above (I took that photo), but in over a year of venturing in photography, I’ve observed, in all weirdness, that there are certain pictures I’d love to see now and then. That picture above, taken just before twilight, is one of them. Like I said there’s nothing special about it—no interesting stories to be told. Each time I look at this picture, I could simply see random things that are common in Manila—utility poles that are erected without any sense of sophistication, traffic jam, people passing by, among others. On the right side, you’ll find the McDonald’s logo (located at the tip of Mindanao Avenue); on the opposite, one of the latest Ayala malls (named TriNoma); and, in the background, the Quezon City Memorial Circle icon. This picture is taken from the footbridge that connects SM City North EDSA and TriNoma. See you tomorrow as I post more random things about Manila…
The Bonbon Series
In here, you’ll see the links to all men featured in The Bonbon Series. If you have any requests and suggestions, feel free to drop a comment and I’ll definitely consider featuring them here. As per Wikipedia, the word bonbon refers to several types of sweets and other table centerpieces across the world, it can be any confection consisting of a sweet center covered by a loose sugar or flavored coating. The word bonbon is also the term used in French and German for sweetness. So let’s just say this is Simply Manila’s endless chain of sweet man candies. Check back soon as this list continues to grow...

The Bonbon Series: John Miller
We’ve seen him first in that sexy video of the group Men of Provoq, entitled Provoq Voyeur, as he played as a stripper in one segment. We found out later that his name is John Miller and next thing we know, he’s all over the place stripping in gay clubs with his pictures displayed everywhere like hotcakes. But like everyone else’s fate who entered show business in the way that he did, his career was short-lived, but sure he’ll be remembered forever as we feature him as Simply Manila’s newest bonbon…
