November's last day today, also Bonifacio Day in the Philippines, and I would like to end this month by posting random pictures of the celebrities who, in one way or another, caught my attention. I don't know how November went for you, I'm guessing you went back to your province to pay tribute to your deceased relatives. Some, I'm sure, traveled to places like Boracay to party, party, party. While I did party earlier this month, I would like to set the record straight that I also remembered the life I left in the province and how it saddened me to remember my childhood days. So, anyway, here's Simply Manila's month-ender...

Lotto Millionaire! So Freaking Bad!
MANILA, Philippines – Someone is richer by P741 million in the wink of an eye. A lone bettor from Luzon correctly picked the winning combination for Monday night’s 6/55 Grand Lotto draw, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) revealed. With over 29 million possible combinations, the unidentified bettor correctly guessed the winning numbers 11-16-42- 47-31-37. The bettor, whose identity is withheld for security reasons, won P741,176,323.20, according to PCSO central operations manager Arnel Casas. The amount is the biggest jackpot prize in the history of the Philippine lotto draw, according to Casas. The prize is tax-free and will be given in a single tranche, the PCSO said. Casas said that whoever picked the winning numbers needs to drop by the PCSO main office and present the thermal paper receipt with the winning combination and at least one valid ID to claim the prize. The winner would be issued a check and has the option of depositing or encashing the check.

KBP's Golden Dove Awards 2010
Hi, I just want to post all the winners of last Thursday's KBP's 19th Golden Dove Awards 2010, held at the Taal Vista Hotel. On top of the recognitions given to several of its programs and talents on both radio and television, the Kapamilya network was declared "Best TV Station" by the media organization. For entertainment, award-winning Kapamilya stars Judy Ann Santos and Coco Martin bested other nominees in their respective categories. Santos is this year's Best TV Drama Actress for her portrayal of lead character Jane Alcantara in "Habang May Buhay," while Martin, who played Ringo in "Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo," is Best TV Drama Actor. Three shows from rival network TV5 also won awards, namely "USI (Under Special Investigation)" (Best Documentary Program), "Talentadong Pinoy" (Best Variety Show), and "Lokomoko U" (Best Comedy Program). Why is GMA-7 missing in the list of winners? They're not a KBP member?

Some MMFF changes introduced by MMDA
MANILA, Philippines - In this year's Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), there will be three notable changes. This was announced by Atty. Francis N. Tolentino, Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman who's also MMFF 2010 over-all chairman, during the recent press launch of the festival at Club Filipino. First, the controversial commercial viability (box-office performance of the entries) criterion that decided heavily on the selection of the Best Picture in previous festivals has been removed. The criteria this time for the selection of Best Picture(s) are artistry, creativity and technical excellence, innovativeness, thematic value and global appeal (70 percent) and Filipino cultural and/or historical value (30 percent). Second, this year's MMFF will give tribute to independent films with the showing of five carefully chosen indie films at SM Megamall a week before the actual MMFF played on Dec. 25. These films are ''Senior Year'' by Jerrold Tarog; ''Nasaan si Hefte'' by Jonnah Lim; ''Presa'' by Adolf Alix, Jr., ''Slow Fade'' by Rommel Sales; and ''Rindido'' by Noriel Jarito. Chairman Tolentino said that this ''Tribute to the Indie Films-Philippine Premier'' intends to promote quality independent films and to encourage filmmakers with limited budget. Third, the board of jurors will be expanded to include men and women from the masa, like housewives, drivers, students, teachers, etc. They will join the established MMFF jurors. The eight official entries to MMFF 2010 are ''Si Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote'' (APT, Inc., GMA Films, Imus Productions, M-Zet TV Production, Inc. and OctoArts Films), ''Ang Tanging Ina Rin (Last na Ito),'' ABS-CBN Productions, Inc.; ''Dalaw'' (Cine Media/Star Cinema), ''Father Jejemon'' (RVQ Productions), ''Rosario'' (Cinemanila International), ''RPG'' (ABS-CBN Productions/Ambient Media); ''Shake, Rattle and Roll XII'' (Regal Entertainment), and ''Super Inday and the Golden Bibe'' (Regal Entertainment).

On Kobe Bryant: "I definitely identify with Kobe Bryant as far as his work ethic... I can always see that he's focused, he works harder than I could ever imagine. It is like he's in the zone. He's just undeniable as far as his talent and his gift."
On Serena Williams: "Definitely, Serena. She just transforms because when you speak to her and she's not working, she's a most lovely, gentle, sweet, beautiful woman, and she is ferocious when she gets out there... I love it! You cannot talk to her. She's in the zone!"
On Manny Pacquiao: "Even Pacquiao, I love him because I really relate to people who were born to do something and gets lost in the moment. When he gets in the ring, he's a beast! I love it! And he shows you can have humility and be a calm person and also be driven when it's time and be a fighter."

I did an experiment last week: I removed the Most Popular Posts widget to see if there will be big changes in that week's Most Popular Posts. True enough, over half of last week's popular posts were newer entries, although the number of views dropped big time. So I'm putting back that widget. Anyway, thanks to all readers of Simply Manila. Please don't hesitate to send your suggestions to make this site better and better. Merci vielmahl. I think I just thanked you in German. Ciao for now.

Senate's Brilliant Magna Carta
True to her word, Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago filed Senate Bill No. 2604, also known as the "Magna Carta for Call Center Workers Act of 2010", to protect thousands of call center employees in the country. Santiago last week said that the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry needed more legislative support as reports claimed that the Philippines was on its way to becoming the world's call center capital in the next few years. "While the country's economy owes a lot from the BPO sector, there is a need to balance the legitimate business interests of BPO companies with the labor rights of its employees," Santiago said. Her bill seeks to guarantee call center employees the following rights: the right to organize and join labor organizations; the right to a safe and healthy working environment; the right to at least a one hour continuous meal break in the middle of every eight hour shift; the right to privacy; safety for nightshift employees; and the right to be informed of the terms and conditions of their contract. Thank you, Sen. Miriam Santiago. You're the most intellectual, no non-sense legislator this country ever had these past few years.

From Bong To Hayden
It's not my problem anymore if there's still bitterness in his heart. Siya ang gumawa ng masama sa kapwa niya, at sa babae pa, kaya he deserves what happened to him. Magpakalalaki siya at harapin niya ang mga kaso niya, na siya naman ang may kagagawan in the first place. He should not pinpoint and blame other people. Hindi sya dapat nagpapasa ng sisi sa ibang tao sa pagkakatanggal ng lisensya niya and the continuing hearing of the criminal case filed against him. When I called for an investigation into the sex video scandal, I did not do it to advance my political or showbiz career. I did it for the sake and protection of women, especially the aggrieved ones. In fact, I gained nothing from it. Nagkaroon lang ako ng kaaway at si Hayden nga 'yon. Isa siyang tituladong tao, and since he's educated, I expect some decency in him. He disappoints me, including the people around him. Sino ang taong nasa tamang pag-iisip ang kayang gumawa at abusuhin ang mga kababaihan katulad ng ginawa niya? Makitid talaga ang isip ko, pagdating sa tama o mali. That's Bong Revilla's message to Hayden Kho.
