Look Around, People!

Most of the time, we hear Willing Willie host Willie Revillame say a nonsense comment or two, but sometimes we don’t care because he’s a comedian, and there are a lot of comedians that are simply not funny. I feel sorry to hear though that he is hounded, yet again, with another controversy, this time, involving a young boy performing like an exotic dancer while crying via his noontime show. Willie Revillame and the show’s studio audience, who, like most Filipinos, have high tolerance towards slapstick comedy and stupidity, were all laughing out loud at the sight of the boy dancing. It’s just this YouTube clip that I’ve seen and not the whole show, and if Willie Revillame didn’t honestly know that the boy’s going to cry in the middle of his performance, then I don’t understand why suddenly it’s his problem. Did they expect him to stop the performance right there and then, sympathize with the child and turn this entertainment and variety show into a drama special? Why is the boy crying, anyway? Who forced him to join the show? Is it Willie? If there was a screening prior to the show going live, then now we know that the people who screened these contestants are just as clueless as what people think of Revillame. If DSWD is indeed taking the limelight to prove their existence by filing a lawsuit even if the child’s camp’s not taking that route, then I think that it will be just right if they also include in their complaint the people who ask the child to show off his talent in national television, who I think are the parents or guardians. Look around, people. BTW, Willing Willie, your cameraman sucks!

I saw this episode, at thought crying was part of his act. I didn't see anything wrong with his performance, although anybody would wonder how come he knew how to 'macho dance'. The only part that i didn't like (but still i enjoyed watching) was when the boy was made to dance repeatedly... every time the music is played, the boy danced without being asked to do so... that made the episode fun. Had the boy performed another 'kind of dance' it wouldn't be as controversial as it is now.

It is so wrong on so many levels. The parents for teaching him that dance, the host for not stopping it and the audience for encouraging it. The show itself is so low-brow and patronizing.

Eto pala yung controversial video na ikinagagalit ng DSWD. Bakit 'di nila kasuhan yung magulang? Eh mukhang tuwang-tuwa sa pinagawa n'ya sa anak n'ya eh.

This is really a distorted comment..trying to explain an extremely shameful event. First, you have written..."Most of the time, we hear Willing Willie host Willie Revillame say a nonsense comment or two, but sometimes we don’t care because he’s a comedian, and there are a lot of comedians that are simply not funny." Please don't generalize by saying that sometimes we don't care..actually a lot cares..that's why an uproar has been created by this despicable event (not to mention, the other irresponsible remarks/comments/shows that he already aired). You may say, why now..why not before.. Well, it could be because of the Filipinos tolerance level or simply, in this case, Willie just reached a state that is extremely wrong, especially that a minor is involved. Further on, you commented.."if Willie Revillame didn’t honestly know that the boy’s going to cry in the middle of his performance, then I don’t understand why suddenly it’s his problem. "..It's his problem because as an entertainer there is such a thing as ethics..being the host he should have stop the boy from dancing when the boy is crying..irregardless whether it's because the boy is pressured or otherwise. He should have consoled the boy & assure him that he doesn't need to do it...anyway he's the host...right? Lastly...."If DSWD is indeed taking the limelight to prove their existence by filing a lawsuit even if the child’s camp’s not taking that route, then I think that it will be just right if they also include in their complaint the people who ask the child to show off his talent in national television, who I think are the parents or guardians. Look around, people. " Im no fan of the government but your comment on DSWD taking the limelight is another comment in bad taste..why?..for one...DSWD is filing a complaint on Willie/show; not to "share" the limelight; but moreso on Willie and his staff for being insensitive of the effects of what they have done on the child's psychological make up (i.e. trauma) and the show's director, hosts etc..for being negligent of their duty (i.e exploiting minors in order to have a better ratings...). Personally, they should stop supporting Willie..this is not his first time in making a big blunder as a host...Furthermore, he is actually giving a disservice in giving the Filipinos a show that insulting our sensitivities and intelligence. Dont worry, im sure DSWD is also looking on the culpability of the child's guardians..

Any person could always claim righteousness, but trying to pull someone down is another, and in this context, I think it's called crab-mentality. I'm not a fan of Willie but how many million Filipinos out there declared themselves as Willie's supporters? If you believe in the Filipino people's intelligence, you'll leave it to them if they're going to continue watching this show I, myself, even consider ugly and cheap. I don't watch it because I don't like it. If you feel the same, just leave the show alone. Let it shine, let it not shine. Find happiness somewhere else. You're free to do whatever you feel like doing.
