For his role in the movie One More Try, Dingdong Dantes won his second MMFF award for Best Actor. I’m wondering why Star Cinema has to look for someone else outside their circle to play the role. It could be well-played by anyone else from their homegrown talents. I mean Piolo Pascual does not even have a movie this year, right? But nevertheless, CONGRATULATIONS to Dingdong Dantes. I haven’t had the chance to watch any of this year’s film because I lost interest unfortunately, but if I have to watch any of this year’s MMFF films, I might go first with One More Try.

Now Showing: The Strangers (2012)

From Wikipedia: The Strangers is a 2012 Filipino teen horror film directed by Lawrence Fajardo. It stars Enchong Dee, Julia Montes, Enrique Gil and JM De Guzman. The film was produced by Quantum Films and MJM Productions and will be distributed by Star Cinema in December 25, 2012. It is also one of the official entries for the 38th Metro Manila Film Festival. The story takes places on a family who got lost in a province and start being hunted by The Strangers especially the aswang. After the film was submitted as an official entry to the 38th Metro Manila Film Festival, it was announced that Quantum Films cast Star Magic contract artists including Julia Montes, Enchong Dee and Enrique Gil for the lead roles. Other cast announced includes Janice De Belen, Cherie Pie Picache and Jaime Fabregas. On October 2012, after the official teaser were released, JM De Guzman and Johnny Revilla were added to the cast.

Rodjun Cruz in Miong21's 4,000th post

Miong21 reached his 4,000th post and posted along with it the abs-olutely sexy Rodjun Cruz. What a great find! Miong is probably one of the first few bloggers I know who started blogging in the same year that I started Simply Manila (though Simply Manila is called Experiment 2007 for a year or so). And until now, he’s still active. The rest of the bloggers during our years ceased in oblivion, and maybe found another calling, and that’s great for them. Let's pray for India: 2012 Delhi gang rape case

From Wikipedia: A female physiotherapy intern was beaten and gang raped in Delhi on 16 December 2012, and died thirteen days later while undergoing emergency treatment in Singapore for brain and gastrointestinal damage from the assault. She and a male companion boarded a bus in South Delhi in the evening after watching a film, and were assaulted by five passengers already aboard. She was taken to Safdarjang Hospital, received multiple surgeries, and was placed on mechanical ventilation. On 26 December, she was moved to Singapore for further treatment, and she died on 29 December. As of 21 December 2012, six men, including the bus driver, have been arrested. The incident has generated international coverage and was condemned by the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, who called on the Government of India and the Government of Delhi "to do everything in their power to take up radical reforms, ensure justice and reach out with robust public services to make women’s lives more safe and secure". Public protests took place in Delhi, where thousands of protesters clashed with security forces. Similar protests took place in major cities throughout the country. The sex crime rate in New Delhi is one of the highest among Indian Cities, with one rape reported every 18 hours (average).

Touche Magazine, one of the blogs I linked to Simply Manila for a long time now (because I want to see updates from that Indonesian blogger) who didn’t return the favor which is fine, recently wrote an entry counting down the top 10 bulges (or group of men’s bulges) of 2012, which I find really cool. It’s the end of the year, and I expect a lot of countdowns or lists in the blogosphere. In fact, I already started one of my two major lists—the Sexiest list. Then early next year, you will see the sixth edition of Simply Manila’s 69 Most Desirable Pinoy Hotties. But, on to this bulge list, we see again the hung-ness of Chris Brown in this picture. Not too long ago, we see him taking a nude picture of himself and, man, his is just too much to take!

If he is in Hollywood, he’s gonna be like Jeremy Renner (41) doing action movies and all, but he is in the Philippines where rich filmmakers are busy with love stories and teeny shows that will surely attract Pinoy moviegoers and poor filmmakers are stuck with low-budget indie films. So it’s sad to see many talents wasted in this country and see actors scramble for little roles to earn more money. I just finished watching Miss Universe 2012 for the second time, and I wanted to watch it again not because I have nothing to do tonight but because I wanted to revisit the sexiest pageant for women this year before we say hello to a new one. Yes, the least on my list is Miss Earth 2012, which was held in some clubhouse in Alabang, Muntinlupa City, Philippines. Through the years, Miss Universe has shown its energy and power like it really is the World Cup of beauty pageants, and it hasn’t been emulated anywhere else. Not even close! Kudos to the Miss Universe Organization for bringing us yet another elegant show!

On MMFF 2012: The winners of the 38th edition!

It’s not MMFF without the surprising award categories and winners. This year, let’s see what they have cooked up for their avid fans. Let’s start with the irrelevant awards. The award called the “Best Float” has been there for decades already so I’m not surprised. That’s not just it though! This year they gave out a Male Star of the Night award which was handed to Joseph Estrada (sounds like a courtesy award) and a Male Celebrity of the Night award to Zanjoe Marudo (maybe the real Star of the Night award). Same goes true for the female category. I mean, what’s the difference? This event has been decorative since the beginning, and I can only hope that our major award-giving bodies would step up to show a distinct taste for real art and credible choices. Not much like MMFF which is a joke! El Presidente won most of the minor awards like Best Make-Up. Wait, really? For a historical drama set up in the pre-war Philippines, the movie looks glossier (and dapper if you may). Indeed, Mark Meily is at his best when he does commercials for TV. Brillante Mendoza won the Best Director award for Thy Womb but the movie did not even get any of the three Best Picture awards, and lost to movies like Sisterakas (a slapstick comedy) and One More Try (a master copycat). The other 'sides' of Alden Richards

I realized a few things after seeing this picture of Alden Richards. First, that he is a Jericho Rosales look-a-like. That is, before Jericho Rosales became what he is right now. I enjoyed watching this short gay film: The Golden Pin (2009). This is so much better than most of those Pinoy gay indie films I have seen. Watch it and let me know what you think. Long, an avid swimmer, finds himself struggling between the expectations of his Asian family and the demands of his heart. His father wants him to marry soon, but his mother, haunted by a past romance, has other ideas. Told with honesty and compassion, 'The Golden Pin,' asks "Is love more powerful than fate?"

Queenierich Rehman, Philippines' Miss World 2012 contestant, beatboxes (VIDEO)

When it comes to the talent portion of beauty pageants, the typical menu of items includes singing, dancing, playing a musical instrument and the occasional death-defying stunt (blazing fire batons, anyone?).

Then there is Queenierich Rehman, the Filipina pageant contestant who may singlehandedly make talent acts cool with her wildly impressive skillz (yes, skillz with a z). For the talent portion of Miss World 2012, currently happening in China, Rehman sang... and beatboxed. At the same time. And girl is one hell of a beatboxer.

The 23-year-old contestant, who hails from Pasay City, keeps her act a surprise, having the pageant hosts introduce her act as a mystery. She starts off singing beautifully, crooning like your average (read: above-average) pageant queen. Then the beatboxing begins, a medley that includes 50 Cent, Justin Timberlake and even "Teach Me How To Dougie."

The crowd, obviously, goes wild. Turns out this is Rehman's signature: she bested 24 Filipina beauties at the Miss World Philippines 2012 pageant with the same act (winning the special honor of "Miss Talent") and she names hip-hop music as one of her hobbies in her MissWorld.com bio.

Watch the video above and be amazed (and also note her awesome jumpsuit and gold platforms heels, an appropriately sassy choice for her unconventional act, we think). The only way we could be more impressed? If she played the water glasses at the same time.

By the time that you’re reading this, it’s already Christmas in the Philippines, so let me greet you a merry, merry Christmas! This is the best time for me to THANK everyone who has supported and loved me in one way or another. I have so many people to THANK actually and that includes you my dear Simply Manila readers. This year has been huge for this blog. It’s Simply Manila’s first time to exceed over 1,500 posts in a year and the previous record was only at 404 in 2011. I believe that this year’s number of posts even exceeds the number of posts from 2006 to 2011 combined. So that’s really something! I drew my inspiration from these numbers and the overwhelming support of my readers. I can’t thank you enough. Enjoy your Christmas. XOXO.

Tis the season to be jolly: Merry Christmas, y'all!

I know my presence subsided a little these past few days but I think I can still live up to your expectations for the rest of the year. And I know that few hours from now, those countdowns to Christmas will be over. I hope that each and every one of us is enjoying this season. Well, actually, I am. I get to spend yet another Christmas with my partner/boyfriend this year and this is our second Christmas together. I’ve had too much red wine already but I will try to stay up so I can try that flying lantern for the first time. How do you call it? Yes, those Chinese lanterns! I forgot what it’s called, but hey, I won’t forget this end of week tradition of mine—my THANK YOU post. So thank you for being part of another successful Simply Manila week. Remembering the victims of the 2012 Philippines flooding

I have so many things running in my head right now, mostly about house renovation as I feel it’s high time for a little upgrade in this house of ours. I live with my Mom, a nephew and a niece, but we have occasional crashers, which honestly irritates me. My only worry about renovating is the flood. The first floor of our of house has been flooded twice since we moved here—first during Typhoon Ondoy (2009) and the second time was earlier this year brought by intense raining and thunder storms. I’m not sure if the Philippine government will be able to stop anything like it from happening again, and so I’m worried our first floor will be impacted by flooding after all these renovations that I have in mind. Most of our furniture and appliances have been destroyed as it was really unexpected. It’s heartbreaking to see something like that be repeated, so I’m hoping I could come up with a wiser decision. It’s ironic to be thinking about something like this during Christmas eve, but perhaps this is also the best time to honor the love ones we lost during that tragic event.

Should we call this sexy guy Jome or Victor?

Let me share this photo of Victor or Jome Silayan as shared first by The Gay Life of VinVin. And I agree with the blogger when he said that Jome is “one of the hottest and hunkiest and yummiest male stars of TV5.” Although recently, there’s been a migration of sexy stars from either GMA or ABS-CBN to TV5, and it’s like a journey that most of us didn’t see coming. Was it worth it for the actors? Maybe they earned more out of their decisions to change the course of their respective careers, but so far I haven’t seen those actors progressing. It almost looked like they went to a remote island—far away from their fans! I guess money can’t buy anything. But I’m glad that pictures like this pop up from out of nowhere. He is sexy, no doubt!

Kenneth Stern for Bench Universe

From Hot Guy News (bold; unedited): Philippine Volcanoes Rugby team member and 2011 Cosmopolitan Magazine USA Most Eligible Bachelor from Connecticut Kenneth Stern joins other celebrities in celebrating the 25 years of Philippine apparel brand Bench at the Bench Universe denim and underwear show. I think he might just become our Sexiest Athlete this year, but let’s see. What do you think?

Let's know this Jason Chee some more

This 24-year-old Singaporean male model and personal trainer Jason Chee wins the title of Manhunt Singapore 2012. He represented his country in the Manhunt International pageant which was held in Bangkok, Thailand, and won as the 4th runner-up. The contest was won by Philippines’ June Macasaet. Chee has been placed in several contests he entered in Singapore such as Manhunt Singpore, Calendar Guys, CLEO Singapore’s Most Eligible Bachelors. He won the title Best Model Singapore 2011, and represented Singapore at the Best Model of the World 2011 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria on July 30, 2011. At the end of the final competition, Chee was proclaimed the Best in Asia.
